my project

with wax

with out wax

We wanted to see if wax is capable of making a converse shoe waterproof. In our research we have found many other people that have done the same experiment and it worked for them. The wax, once melted into the shoe can fill the tiny holes in the fabric that lets water into the shoe. One good thing to know is less is more with a solid piece of wax, make sure you test all areas that wax was applied.(Spinney, 2012). I think once the wax in melted and cooled it will be able to make the shoes waterproof.

Materials
·         Wax (candle is easier to spread than beeswax)
·         Shoes
·         Hairdryer

Procedure

1.       Get shoes you want to waterproof
2.       Grab candle/piece of wax
3.       Rub candle/wax on to the entire shoe
4.       Once wax is on the entire shoe heat with Hairdryer
5.       Then test

If you go back to the top of the page you can see the difference in the amount of water inside the by the amount of water on the paper towel. This is the best way to find out if there is any water going through the shoe. if you see any you can go back over the shoe or just that spot with more wax.

I would say that is works very well when done correctly with the correct materials. When it is done the shoes apperance will be the same if you use the perfect amount of wax and time heat is applied. i would do this to all my shoes and see if there are any different ways that work better and in a more cost effective way
